The main focus of my research has been the identification and differentiation of tsunami and storm deposits in the Holocene.

This mainly involves the use of sedimentological techniques such as: grain-size analysis, surface microtextural analysis of quartz grains, micromorphology, heavy minerals assemblages and numerical modelling.
I have applied this methodology to deposits from Portugal, Scotland, Indonesia, United States, Spain, Chile, Brazil and Japan.

The main purposes of my work are:
a) to contribute to the development of sedimentological criteria to recognize and differentiate tsunami and storm deposits;
b) to better understand the different stages of the hydro and morphodynamic processes associated with these events through the study of their geological imprint.

I am currently a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Invited Lecturer at the University of Lisbon.
